How to choose your circuit in Mauritius?
The choice depends first on available time. For a first discovery, a stay of 1 to 7 days allows you to combine a beach base of 4 or 5 nights, two or three nights inland around Chamarel or Ferney Valley, and a few excursions to the northern islets or the wild south coast. If you have 8 to 12 days, add an extension to Rodrigues, the sister island 1 hour 30 minutes by flight away, which deserves three to four nights to grasp its rural rhythm.
We recommend avoiding itineraries that change hotels every evening: the island is 65 kilometers from north to south, two or three well-chosen bases are enough to cover everything.
Different types of circuits
Our cultural circuits include the central market in Port-Louis, the Aapravasi Ghat listed as a Unesco site, the Tamil temples of Grand Bassin and Creole guesthouses. The adventure itineraries focus on hiking at Morne Brabant, diving on the drop-offs of the west coast, kitesurfing at Le Morne and canyoning in the Rivière Noire gorges.
Family trips prioritize the calm lagoons of Belle Mare, catamaran outings to Île aux Cerfs, Casela park for its lemurs and tortoises, with accommodations suited to children and short stages.
What is the best season?
The austral winter, from May to October, offers the best conditions: temperatures between 20 and 26°C, low humidity, calm seas on the west coast. September and October are our favorite months, with water around 24°C and little rain. The austral summer, from November to April, reaches 30°C with high humidity and real cyclone risk between January and March. It is the warmest season for swimming but also the most exposed to bad weather.
